Jon Snow and Harlem to require further pre-Cup inspections (Update: Both out!)

The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained Jon Snow and the Lindsay Park Racing-trained Harlem are both subject to re-examination by Racing Victoria stewards and veterinarians following inspections.

Harlem hurt his eye, and was swollen on inspection on Thursday afternoon.

It was reported that Jon Snow had heat in both his front feet.

Both will be inspected again on Saturday morning – Harlem before 7:30am scratching time given he is entered into the Group 3 Lexus Handicap (2500m).

Racing Victoria steward Rob Montgomerie said the inspections will be done as quickly as possible.

“We are aware this situation is less than ideal for everyone concerned and we will be working as quickly as possible to get the inspections done on Saturday morning,” Montgomerie said.

“As soon as we know we will make the information available.”

A report will be given to the Victoria Racing Club committee before Saturday’s 5pm Melbourne Cup final acceptance deadline on Jon Snow.

With no emergencies in the race, the final field face additional scrutiny to try to ensure a full field of 24 line up for the big race.
