Notes: Won an Italian Group 1 and was second in the St Leger before that, before being bought by a syndicate of owners including the Hayes-Hayes-Dabernig stable with the Melbourne Cup in mind, and they put the polish on him. One run in May here – a decent fifth in a 2000m handicap when given 59kgs. Trialled well in early August. Bit of a watch on this horse.

His jockey, Regan Bayliss, spoke with Racing.com:

“That race he did have at Flemington he did show a good turn of foot and just knocked up late.

“He’s had plenty of work and plenty trials leading into this, so he’s pretty wound up going into his first- up run, keeping in mind the team have got bigger goals further down the track.

“He’s acclimatised very well and I’m looking forward to him kicking off in the Heatherlie on Saturday.

“Whatever he does on Saturday I’m sure he’ll improve on and look for him once he gets out to 2400 metres and beyond … you’ll see a serious stayer.”

He finished seventh in the Heatherlie Stakes, a decent show.

He was then almost untested in the Group 1 Makybe Diva (1600m) and didn’t get a chance to show his class yet, and is looking for more ground.

He then ran second behind Winx in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at good odds. Now, he was a mile back to Winx but that’s not unusual!

He goes into the Caulfield Cup as an early $11 chance carrying 54kgs, dropping 2.5kgs off his Turnbull run which is positive. Connections will be hoping for a big show.

Here he is winning the Group 1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club – the call is half the fun.
