Notes: Harlem is a recent import for David Hayes and the Hayes/Dabernig team.

He was a Listed race winning in France and ran fourth in the 2016 Prix Kergorlay, his last race in France, before he was sold for 520,000 guineas ($940,000).

“This horse was bought to win a Melbourne Cup,” Hayes said, back in April. “He was top price at the Tattersall’s sale and he’s a promising horse.”

Importantly, he’s had a prep in Australia, going through the Blamey Stakes (third), Queen Elizabeth (eighth – miles off them, forget the run), and Sydney Cup (sixth).

He resumed in the Heatherlie with a good showing, finishing fifth off the 1700m gallop. Look for him down the outside, and note he copped some interference so it may have been better with luck.

He stepped up to the plate in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) to put them away in a good performance, booking his place in the Caulfield Cup.

He should go from the Caulfield Cup into the Melbourne Cup.

Note that he’s not a wet tracker at all.
