All Comers Stakes: Albert puts in a solid Cup trial in Japan

Japanese horse Albert didn’t feature in the places in the Group 2 All Comers Stakes (2200m) in Nakayama, but put in a strong Cup trial at a distance well short of his best.

The Noriyuki Hori-trained marathon stayer ran in the midfield off a hot tempo, with a bolting leader, horse number 10 Meiner Milano putting more than five lengths on the field at the turn.

Albert closed well and showed his sustained sprint to finish just three lengths behind winner Rouge Buck.

It was likely to have been encouraging enough for connections to continue to entertain the idea of joining Admire Deus from Japan in quarantine towards a Melbourne Cup run.
